My friend Kari threw a cupcake themed party for her daughter Ella. She was kind enough to let me share the pictures of her decorations with you all.
Cupcake Table Centerpieces
Cupcake Favors
Her Cupcake Tower. Kari’s husband made it, and she painted/decorated it, and made all the cupcakes!
Cupcake Lollipops! (These are actually Rice Krispies Treats inside!)
Her Giant Cupcake Smash Cake
Her Candy Bars (Okay, she definitely ordered these online, didnt make them! But I thought they were super cute!)
Her Banner
Thank you Kari for sharing your cupcake creations and finds with us!

Kari, I love that banner!! How did you make it? Could you send me close up pictures of it? I am having a cupcake themed party for my daughter’s first birthday and want to make a banner just like that. LOVE IT!!! Thanks.

Jennifer – Sure, did you want me to email them to you?
I just cut out 7 inch circles of coordinating scrapbooking paper and then smaller 5 inch circles that were of contrast and then painted the letters and pasted those onto the inner circles. I painted the “1st” and a cupcake to separate the words “Happy Birthday Ella” instead of using spaces, and then I hole punched each circle on both sides and tied them together with a small piece of ribbon. You could always make the circles smaller though too, this one ended up being like 12 feet long! lol
Let me know if there is anything else you wanted to know!

What is the cupcake tower made out of? I love it.

LOVE IT!!!! How was the smash cake made?
March 12th, 2009 at 1:16 pm
How did you make the centerpieces? All the idea’s are so cute. Thanks.
March 15th, 2009 at 8:20 am
What are the favors? and How did you make those lollipops? Adorable!!!
March 15th, 2009 at 5:57 pm
Lyd – the cupcake tower is made out of wood. I googled cupcake tower, found one that was actually for a wedding and my husband built it for me. I then painted it and then put a pretty scrapbook paper all around the sides!
March 15th, 2009 at 5:58 pm
Lisa – Thanks! I used the Wilton Giant Cupcake Pan!
March 15th, 2009 at 5:59 pm
Kay – I made the centerpieces out of terracotta pots. Then I glued the bases on top of the pot, painted them to look like a cupcake and used wooden spools and ribbon to create the candle!
March 15th, 2009 at 6:02 pm
Maggie – I got mini baking cups and bought little candies and wrapped them in tulle, turned the tulle upside down into the baking cups so that they fluffed up like a cupcake, and then wrapped them in little cello favor bags!
And as for the lollipops, I loosely followed Bakerella’s blog on “cupcake pops”, but I opted to use Rice Krispies Treats inside instead of cake, thinking they would be easier to work with.

Hi Kari! Love your ideas for the cupcake themed party!! I’m in the process of planning my daughter’s second birthday party, and the theme is cupcake. I love your favors and was wondering what kind of little candies you used for them? I live in a small town and didn’t know if you bought them in bulk somewhere or purchased them at a local candy store? If you would be kind enough to let me know what you used or some ideas of what would work best, that would be wonderful! Thank you soooo much!

I just wanted to say how cute it all looked. I am actually getting my son’s 1st birthday party together and I had decided to use cupcakes too. His theme isn’t cupcakes though. It is jungle animals. And it is turning out really nice. So I think that with cupcakes you can’t go wrong.

I’m doing a cupcake theme like most of you- here a few of my other ideas…
-we aren’t decorating our cupcakes beyond the white or chocolate frosting because our “favors” are a jar of sprinkles for each person with a label that says “Thank you for sprinkling M___ with a year of of love” that way they will get to decorate their own cupcake with their sprinkles and the centerpieces on the tables will be cupcake tins filled with m&ms, marshmallows, jelly beans, and other yummy decorate-your-own toppings
-Kohls Valentines decorations are all cupcake- we got our pasta bowl, table runner, frame for her birthday picture, a cupcake dress, and cupcake clothes, and other decorations and I will be able to use them for years to come on Valentine’s Day!
-our goody bags are cupcake boxes from a bakery that has the same name as my daughter and we are filling them with fun cupcake toys (rings, candies, lip gloss…)
-we have four different size cupcakes- the Wilton large cake size cupcake, jumbo cupcakes, regular cupcakes, and the mini ones- the table will be full in large to small order
-Michaels Valentines decorations have some really cute puffy stickers that we are using on the invites
-Michaels also has these colored plastic bowls that are shaped like cupcake papers- the zigzag bottom paper- they will be great for snacks on each of the tables
I know there are some other things- but these are some of our favorites we can’t wait to share with our friends!

I would live to know where you found or how you made the large discs on the cupcake smash cake. I am only able to find the small Wilton confetti that they say are jumbo but are still too small for me. Would love any suggestions. Thanks for all the great ideas!
