I don’t know about you but I never seem to buy the right number of cupcake liners for when I’m baking. I always end up with too many. It’s like the hot dog and bun conundrum where liners aren’t sold in the same units as the number of cupcakes people generally bake them. With all the different patterns available to customize your cupcakes for holidays or events, it’s easy for the paper or foil liners to accumulate in the cabinet. Luckily, there are many other options for how to use those leftover liners, ranging from kids’ crafts to useful tricks. Read the rest of this entry »

Cupcake Crafts

By on Tuesday, December 21st, 2010

Now it is no secret that your ATC contributors are totally and completely obsessed with cupcakes but I have to admit another obsession in my life: crafts.  And cupcake crafts?  Well, they are what I dream about at night!  I love making polymer clay cupcakes, crocheted cupcakes, soap cupcakes, fabric cupcakes, felt cupcakes and so many more than I need not admit too.  So this week I thought I might share what some of my next cupcake craft projects might be.  Click on the links to find the tutorial for each craft.

Cupcake Washcloths

How adorable would these be for a baby shower?  And if you haven’t seen the diaper cupcakes yet, you must click here!  So stinkin’ cute!

 Cupcake Ornaments

Perfect week to craft these cuppies.  I can picture my whole Christmas tree decorated with them!  What a sight that would be…

Pin the Candle on the Cupcake  Game

Why didn’t I see this before I had my daughter’s cupcake birthday party?  Argh!  You could also make a pink or blue one and it would be a perfect baby shower game too.   Or maybe make a red and green one for a holiday party?  The possibilities are endless!

Etsy just seems to love cupcakes this summer!   Tonight they will be hosting a get together at their labs in Brooklyn, NY.  Crafters will learn how to make cute needle felted pinback buttons, embroidered cards and enjoy cupcakes from 4-8pm.  If you don’t live in the New York area, you can join them at 5pm ET in their virtual lab.   I am planning on joining in online so please look for my avatar (shop icon) and say hello!

Craft Night

For those of you who buy or sell on Etsy, on Monday July 12th their weekly Craft Night will be a lesson on how to make cake-inspired felt confections.  If you live in Brooklyn you can join them in person for free from 4-8pm or at 5pm in their online chat room.   Unfortunately, I will be far away from Brooklyn so look for me in the chat room that evening.  Click here to see all the details.

DIY Cupcake Boxes

Cupcake Boxes

With Mother’s day around the corner, here is an excellent DIY suggestion from Theresa Wong at thestar.com.my.  As delectable as these cupcake boxes may seem, they are in fact not edible.  They are merely paper mache containers for little treasures hidden inside of them!

All of the materials (ingredients) needed can be found at your local crafts store.  Click here for step by step DIY instructions.

As with any other english speaking country, the english language may be the same, but the terminology may be different.  Below are some terms that I had to scratch my head a little to figure out:

Foam fruit net = foam net that protects fruit

Paper cake cases = paper cupcake liners

Patty tin = muffin tin
