Edible Mustache Cupcake Toppers

Posted by on Saturday, November 19th, 2011

Remember those trendy Fisker’s cupcake toppers we showed you over the summer?  Well now Lisa Stroms has a twist on the mustache cupcake toppers, edible mustache cupcake toppers!  These are really easy to make, just sketch or print out the mustache shape you want to use as your template and cover with wax paper.  Next melt chocolate and fill into a ziploc bag.  Snip the corner of the bag and pipe the chocolate following the outline of the template first and filling in the mustache second.  Then use chocolate to “glue” on a lollipop stick, once dry you have edible mustache cupcake toppers.

Peace Love Cupcakes Letterpress Cards

Posted by on Tuesday, November 15th, 2011

Is it too early to be thinking about the holiday cards you will be sending out this year?  It seems as though the second you finish your Thanksgiving leftovers someone is sending out their holiday cards.  I know in my family my mom waits until the last minute to send out her cards but why not get ahead and order these beautiful cupcake letterpress cards by Parrot Design Studio.  A set of six cards that reads “Peace Love Cupcakes” costs $15.00 or you can purchase an individual card for $4.00. And remember you need time for the cards to be shipped to you and then to your recipients.

Dior Baby Girls Cupcake Print Tee

Posted by on Sunday, November 13th, 2011

Sometimes I wonder why the best cupcake stuff seems to be for kids! I really start to wonder when I see things like this Dior cupcake print tee which is for little girls.  I like the shirt especially because I love water colors and cupcakes but I would not spend $87.00 on myself let alone on a T-shirt for a baby that will quickly grow out of it!

Posted by on Thursday, November 10th, 2011

Do you remember cinnamon toast crunch breakfast cereal?  I always think of the commercials from the 1990s with Wendell and the other bakers which used the slogan “it’s the taste you can see.”

Cinnamon Toast Crunch cupcakes can now be added to the list of breakfast cupcake, along with pancakes, cinnamon rollsPop Tart, and Cap’n Crunch Cookie cupcakes.  These cinnamon toast crunch cupcakes are the creation of Your Cup of Cake and they have me craving that cinnamunchcruncy taste!

ATC Review: KamNCo

Posted by on Wednesday, November 9th, 2011

KamNCo is a fun little Etsy shop that offers faux cupcakes.  These realistic cupcakes range in price from $3.00 to $8.00 for a single cupcake to $24.00 for a party pack of 4.  Each cupcake is approximately 4 inches tall and the cupcakes come in a variety of colors and decorations.

ATC was sent the pastel party cupcake in aqua for review.  As soon as I opened the package I was immediately amazed at how realistic these cupcakes are.  Inside the package t looked like I had a mini cupcake with vanilla butter cream frosting and topped with a chocolate drizzle and multi colored sprinkles.  As the product description reads the faux cupcake is very light weight, which means if used as a decoration on a Christmas tree, they will not weigh down the branches. I can’t believe how quickly the holiday season is approaching!  All the stores are stocked with their holiday merchandise which means its time to start hunting for fun cupcake finds.  This year is one of my friends first years having her own tree and she has already expressed a desire to have a themed Christmas tree.  Have you heard of anyone doing these?  Basically my friend wants to have a “sweet tree,” where all the ornaments, garland, and even the star on top is a dessert or candy.  I think these Martha Stewart Collection Christmas mini cupcake ornaments which come in a box of three would be perfect for her tree.  They are available from Macy’s for $17.00.

I love souvenirs and they are even better when they are cupcake related!  In October my parents spent two weeks in London and were nice enough to bring me back a few surprises.  One of them is The Notting Hill Shopping Bag which is designed by local school children to support local causes.  My parents made the obvious choice of chosing the cupcake design for me which was designed by X factor judge and Notting Hill resident Natalie Imbruglia.  The bags are available online through paypal for 8 euro, just be sure to mention you want the cupcake design when checking out.

I know today everyone is talking about the Nor’easter in the North East but I have a feeling we still have a few fall days left before winter is here to stay.  Since the holiday catalogs have already started arriving I looked through Hearth Song’s catalog this weekend.  Hearth Song has some really cute cupcake items.  My personal favorite are the cupcake rain gear; boots, umbrellas, and raincoats! Prices for these fun items range from $19.98 for the umbrella to $48.98 for the cupcake raincoat which features faces of bunnies and dogs on top of cupcakes.

She bought the eye from a local candy store but I’m sure white candy with a drop of chocolate will have the same effect!

In addition to the three cupcake banks there are also hamburgers, globes, and the traditional piggy along with frogs and dinosaurs.  With so many options to choose from these would be great to buy now and save as a christmas present since they are $9.99-$11.04, especially if you needed something for a boy and a girl.

The Cupcakory

Posted by on Thursday, October 20th, 2011

While visiting Boston last weekend I was amazed at how many food trucks can be spotted around the city!  Of course I tried several food trucks including a red velvet maple ice cream sandwich from Frozen Hoagies and at the SoWa Open Market I had The Green Munster Melt grilled cheese which consisted of munster cheese, homemade avocado and applewood bacon from Roxy’s Gourmet Grilled Cheese.

Most importantly at the Boston Book Festival I tried a cupcake from The Cupcakory, Boston’s original cupcake truck.  Feeling seasonal I decided to try the Apple Crumble cupcake, shown at left.  A fresh apple cake with vanilla butter cream, rolled in a traditional baked apple crumble topping of oatmeal, brown sugar, butter, and autumn spices.  I enjoyed watching my cupcake be frosted and rolled in the apple crumble topping as opposed to being handed a pre-decorated cupcake.  The cupcake was delicious and despite not being a huge fan of whipped frosting I really liked the apple crumble topping. The best way to find The Cupcakory is to check their Location/schedule section on their website for follow them on Facebook and Twitter. Oh and don’t you love their cupcake display window?

Hidden Candy Corn Cupcakes

Posted by on Thursday, October 13th, 2011

Over the past few years we here at ATC have shared several candy corn cupcake ideas.  We started with the idea of dying the cupcake batter yellow and orange and layering them to look like a candy corn.  The next year we showed you that you could take any cupcake and frost it to look like a candy corn by piping white, yellow, and orange frosting on top. This year we take it one step further, dark chocolate cupcakes with a candy corn inside!  The Sugar Turntable came up with the fun and festive idea, as she says in her description, the dark chocolate cupcake combined with the candy corn colors just screams fall and Halloween!

The directions for how to make these awesome cupcakes are included in her original post but while at the website check out her other Halloween tutorials.  The tutorials include  instructions for the fun boneyard cupcakes shown to the right, would you believe marshmallows and pretzels are used to make them?

Cupcake Cruise

Posted by on Tuesday, October 11th, 2011

I have been meaning to blog about this exciting adventure for a little over a month now.  Fellow cupcake bloggers Cupcakes Take The Cake have announced that they are going on a cupcake lovers cruise!  The best part is you’re invited! The week long cruise is taking place August 19-26th 2012.  The cruise departs from New Jersey and docks in Bermuda for three days.  One of the best parts of the cruise, aside from that it is cupcake themed is the amazing guest speakers and workshop hosts.  The authors of Hello Cupcake, and What’s New Cupcake as well as the authors and owners of Baked will be on the cruise.  These are just the announce guests, there will also be some surprises!  If you would like to book a ticket or for more information you can email [email protected] or call 800-828-4813. This sounds like a fun vacation that I would love to go on, if only I had $999.00 which is the starting price!
