When my sister shared with me Gemma Correll’s flickr I immediately loved her cupcake images. The first image, titled “Let Them Eat Cake” shown left is exactly how I feel about cupcakes, you can eat them, just not so many that it becomes unhealthy. People always find my interests to be contradicting since I have a love of cupcakes but studied nutrition in college but Gemma’s image sums up how we should go about eating cupcakes. I also liked the cupcake fight image (featured below) with a cupcake that has gotten into a fight so he has a bite taken out of him.

Gemma Correll has tons of other fun photos on her flickr page or her website features her portfolio. She also has an etsy page, for the purchase of her art and other goods.

Curry Kay Designs is a handmade textile business based out of West Hartford, Connecticut. Since opening her Etsy shop a little over two months ago her cupcake prints featured on aprons, dish towels, and bags have been her best seller and it’s easy to see why. The apron and dish towels which came for us to review are beautiful.

The apron is absolutely gorgeous; it arrived while I was in the middle of baking earl grey cupcakes and I immediately put it on. A bright, bold violet is complimented nicely by the light green trim and ties for the apron. Unlike many aprons the neck piece on Curry Kay’s apron is adjustable thanks to two slots and a polka dot button. The lower corner features a big, white screen printed cupcake with sprinkles and a cherry on top. Just above the waistline is an adorable little bird. I really liked the apron and the dish towels matched. The dish towels are the same rich violet and feature the same cupcake image. Read the rest of this entry »

It seems as though there is always something threatening to take the cupcakes spot as a popular food trend. First there were macaroons, then there was pie and popsicles and now it’s doughnuts! Over the last couple of months I have seen lots of recipes for doughnuts in magazines and online. I will admit that I have even considered purchasing a doughnut pan to try out some of the recipes.

Melissa and Doug obviously love cupcakes since we have shared with you before their bake and decorate cupcake set. With beach season not quite over yet there is still time to get use out of their Seaside Sidekicks Sand Cupcake Kit. The 12 piece set which costs $14.99 includes a cupcake sand mold, a baking tray with liners, cupcake toppers and an icing tool. The twelfth piece, which is the part I liked the most, is the mesh bag included for storing the set. There is nothing worse than losing toys at the beach!

Belle Announcements: Fine Stationery was created three years ago by a stay-at-home mom with a passion for graphics. This passion comes across in her high quality line of products. Since the stationery is printed on 110lb cardstock with real liquid ink, there is a not only high quality but this also adds to the desirable appearance of the final products. But not only is the quality of the product important when purchasing stationery but it also needs to catch your eye which Belle Announcements stationery does through it’s beautiful graphics. Of course I was particularly drawn to the cupcake images on the samples I received, one of which is shown below but there are tons of other graphics for all occasions to choose from.

One of the best things about Belle Announcements is that templates are not used so everything is customizable. Since the entire piece can be customized this means that you can change the colors, text, and graphics to meet your needs. You even have the option to change the type of cardstock to Linen, Pearl, or Glossy. I personally liked the pearl cardstock which appeared to sparkle. The colors are lighter when printed on this type of cardstock so individuals looking for bright, bold colors would prefer the linen cardstock. Read the rest of this entry »

To me it feels like every year when the flyers come out for back to school shopping and they talk about the fall’s style trends, plaid is always listed as being in style. So why not make your cupcakes fit the season’s style trend and bake these pink plaid cupcakes by Reynold’s. The Reynold’s website helps you find the pink plaid party liners at a store near you and includes detailed instructions on how to decorate your cupcakes with a plaid topping.

The Smucker’s website offers two options for purchasing this product, enter your zip code in the flavor finder to find the flavor at your local grocery store or purchase directly from their website. When I go shopping this weekend I think I might have to pick this up just to try it!

Laptop Lunches are practical food containers that aim to promote better nutrition and waste reduction. I was pleasantly surprised when the sample laptop lunchbox arrived. Inside the shipping was a purple lunch box, a user’s guide and two dividers. Inside the lunch box are the bento 2.0 Bento Buddies which nicely divide the lunch box. I particularly like the smallest Bento Buddy which is perfect for holding a serving of salad dressing. I also liked that when you flipped the Bento Buddies over there was space for you to write your name. This would be really helpful for parents who send their kids off to school and want to make sure they get all their containers back.

The Laptop Lunch User’s Guide states that it provides fresh ideas for making wholesome, earth-friendly lunches your kids will love. The user’s guide seems more like a mother’s go-to-guide for lunch ideas. Not only does the guide provide creative lunch menus and recipes its also filled with tips on how to feed picky eaters and reduce waste. Topics such as childhood obesity, kids nutrition and using leftovers are also covered.

Here in North Carolina peaches are in season which means it is the perfect time to try Peach Bellini Cupcakes. I was really excited when I came across this recipe on My Man’s Belly, since after visiting Italy in the spring I fell in love with prosecco! Prosecco is an italian sparkling wine that is usually described as dry and having a flavor similar to white peach, which explains why it is paired with peached to make Peach Bellini which is a type of cocktail.

My mom’s birthday is a little less then two weeks away so I was trying to come up with a cupcake idea for her. I came across these Hydrangea Cupcakes on Glorious Treats and think I have found what I’ll be making my mom! Below are Glory’s picture directions and step by step directions to follow to create these floral cupcakes.
Glory made a batch of her favorite chocolate cupcakes (recipe HERE), and her vanilla cream cheese frosting (recipe HERE). Then colored half of the frosting blue, and half purple (mixing a few shades of blues and purples to get a good color match to the real hydrangeas). When making the frosting, use very little cream (less than 1 tablespoon), because the coloring will add some liquid, and you need the frosting to be pretty stiff to hold a nice shape.
