How fun is this cupcake color in clock designed by 9Spotmonk? For $34.00 you get the letter press printed clock with three non-toxic crayons for kids (or adults) to personalize.  They also have color in cupcake thank you cards for kids but I think this clock is more fun!

Red Velvet Devil’s Food Cupcakes

Posted by on Tuesday, January 25th, 2011

Prior to reading Kitchen Contessa’s blog post I’ve never heard of red velvet cupcakes being called devil’s food cupcakes.

I know I love red velvet cupcakes so I’m sure I’ll enjoy trying her Red Velvet Devil’s Food Cupcake recipe.  I especially like the fun decorating, dipping the frosted cupcakes in melted colored chocolate to transform the cupcakes into red devils!

Will Cotton Cupcake Tiaras

Posted by on Monday, January 24th, 2011

A few months ago there was a Food & Wine issue that featured an piece on Will Cottons.  Will Cotton is a New York based painter known for creating landscapes inspired by sweets.  Most recently he is known for having painted fellow cupcake lover, Katy Perry which appeared on the December 2010 cover of ARTnews. What caught my eye in the Food & Wine article was Cotton Candy Hannah, 2009 which is shown above.  The description reads:

Pink cotton candy clouds are the backdrop for many of Will Cotton’s portraits. The model in this oil painting is wearing a cupcake tiara that Cotton created for workers at his NYC pop-up bakery.

A cupcake tiara as part of the employee uniform! The Will Cotton Bakery was part of Partners & Spade and I would have loved to work there if it meant getting to wear a cupcake tiara! Below is an image of the employees wearing their uniform.

Ticings

Posted by on Tuesday, January 18th, 2011

In September when I ate at The Culinary Institue of America at Greystone in California our butter came with a ticing on top.  Ticings are thing sheets of edible icing that have no flavor because they take on the flavor of the food the are applied to.  Ticings are a great way to quickly and easily decorate cupcakes, cakes, and cookies since you can add images or text to your baked good by simply peeling the ticing off the backing sheet and applying it to frosting.

These edible icing prints are a great way to decorate cupcakes!  They have a crisp, professional look to them but are actually simple. As an added bonus they are made with food grade ink and gluten free which means you don’t have to worry about food allergies. Additionally they last for up to six months when stored properly which gives you have a decent amount of time to use them.

Cupcake Resolution

Posted by on Sunday, January 16th, 2011

I know most people made their resolutions a little over two weeks ago but I just came across this resolution which cupcake lovers will appreciate.  Emily from the SCOOP made her first resolution for 2011 to be to eat more cupcakes. To kick off her resolution she stopped by Sprinkle’s new Chicago location. I like this idea as opposed to all the lose weight, get fit, eat a less sugary diet because it focuses on what makes you happy.  Also, it’s a lot easier to keep this resolution!

Cupcake Stamps

Posted by on Saturday, January 15th, 2011

I came across My Favorite Things because one of my favorite artists, Stephanie Fizer has created illustrations for them, like these really cute robots.  My Favorite Things is a website that sells clear stamps and while looking around on the site I noticed quite a few cupcake stamps.  Most of the stamps are pretty girly looking like a bunny named Flopsey holding a cupcake or a little girl hugging a cupcake (each shown above).  The prices for the stamps range in price from $9.00-11.00.

Additionally, I really like the cupcake card template which features the à la modes birthday girl stamp. It’s a downloadable file that costs $1.95.

Stuffed Pancake Cupcakes

Posted by on Thursday, January 13th, 2011

I have been craving pancakes lately which got me thinking about pancake cupcake recipes.  I came across this recipe for stuffed pancake cupcakes by Katin Cooks.  They look pretty interesting and I think I might give them a try this weekend (recipe below).  I like that they’re semi-home made but wonder if they’re still cupcakes without frosting? Does syrup count?

Ingredients
2 cups Original Bisquick mix
1 cup milk
2 eggs
1/2 stick butter
12 tbsp filling: try Nutella, fruit jam, or cream cheese
confectioners sugar for sprinkling
maple syrup for serving

Instructions
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Generously coat the bottom & sides of a 12-muffin tin with butter. Make Bisquick pancakes per instructions on the box. Fill each cup in the muffin tin half-way. Add 1 tbsp of filling to the middle of each muffin, then cover with the remaining pancake mix. Bake 20 minutes. Remove from oven, place on serving dish & use a flour sifter to sprinkle with sugar. Serve with warm syrup.

ATC Review: Cupcake Chalkboard Decal

Posted by on Wednesday, January 12th, 2011

WallCandy Arts creates reusable wall stickers and wall art.  These wall decals can easily be removed and reapplied without leaving any marks on the walls.  One of there products is a large cupcake wall decal that doubles as a chalkboard; Which was what we here at ATC were sent to review.

I love this product and have to admit it is one of my favorite reviews so far.  As the website states it is easy to use, you simply peel the decal off the backing, stick it onto the wall and smooth out any air pockets with your hands.   Then when you want to remove or rearrange the layout, you just peel the decal off the wall.  It comes off with out damaging the walls.  These wall decals are great because you don’t have to use nails that leave holes in walls or I’ve had comand hooks peel off the paint before.  So if you are looking for a unique way to decorate, these are a great option. I know I post about Sweet Paul a lot but I love everything he creates! So while the gift giving season is behind us I couldn’t help but share this idea for cupcake flowers.  To make these flowers you need 3 large liners and 3 small liners.  Then another line for my favorite part of these flowers, the tassels. For his brief instructions, visit Sweet Paul’s posting.

Cupcake Lamp

Posted by on Monday, January 10th, 2011

I have been to Target more times in the past few days then I would like to admit.  On one of my many trips I found this cupcake lamp that would be perfect for a little girls’ room! I think it’s cute that the cupcake looks like it it sitting on a plate.  I also like that it is somewhat simple with pink ric-rack along the top and bottom of the lamp shade.  Brown and pink are such popular colors right now that it’s easy to match other pieces to this lamp. The table lamp costs $99.99 and might be eligible for free shipping.

Dean and Deluca Cupcake

Posted by on Sunday, January 9th, 2011

One of the good things about moving to a new place is there’s lots of new places to try.  So moving to an area in South Carolina but close to Charlotte, North Carolina, for grad school means new cupcake spots to try.  For my first adventure I stuck to what I knew and went to Dean and Deluca, a gourmet food shop, for a snack.  They have such a great bakery display case that it was hard to decide on just one thing.

Instead of sticking to the usual, classic flavors I went for one of the unique ones and tried a Raspberry and Pink Champagne cupcake.  How can you pass up a hot pink cupcake?  The cupcake was really good.  The raspberry and champagne flavors complimented each other nicely.  The champagne flavor was very subtle and came across as a hint of yeast flavor.

DIY Cupcake Delivery Box

Posted by on Sunday, January 2nd, 2011

I am continually looking for ways to display and deliver cupcakes.  When giving cupcakes as a gift I like something that is covered to protect the cupcakes which is why I like these cupcake delivery boxes created by Simply Modern Mom.  These do-it-yourself boxes are made out of card stock.  Although she suggests using something a bit sturdier to support the cupcakes, now that she has tested out the boxes. To make the boxes you will also need to download the box and divider templates.  The rest of the directions can be found below.

Disney’s Tangled Cupcake

Posted by on Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010

Disney’s lastest animated children’s film, Tangled is a twist on the classic story, Rapunzel.  I noticed that in one of the previews for the film a “pub thug” offers Rapunzel a tray of cupcakes.

According to Disney’s character description, ATTILA CUPCAKE is the most intimidating of all the thugs; but once you get to know him you realize that he’s actually a quiet softy who is more comfortable in an apron than body armor. Attila is most at home in front of his oven, cooking and baking away. His specialty? Cupcakes. He dreams of the day that he can put down his sword and pick up his spatula… and maybe, just maybe open his own bakery.

The video clip titled Wanted: Pub Thug, can be watched on youtube, or you could always go see the movie!

Gingerbread Cupcakes

Posted by on Wednesday, December 15th, 2010

Since it has been freezing outside here in North Carolina and Christmas is right around the corner, it seems like the perfect time to bake Gingerbread Cupcakes!  I came across this recipe which has been adapted from Land O Lakes by Baked By Rachel.  My favorite part of these cupcakes might be that Rachel topped them with little gingerbread men cookies.  Rachel kept her cupcakes simple by not decorating the gingerbread men but you could easily add some flare to your cupcake and decorate the cookies as well.
