Dominique of Sugarplum Cupcakes from across the pond over in England shared her masterful animal cupcake creations with us. My favorite is the sheep. The pearls woven together to simulate the wool is adorable. She will be offering a “Novelty Cupcake Workshop” to share her tips and tricks:
Forgot to mention I host cupcake workshops in Suffok, UK. These four
characters are stars of my latest ‘Novelty Cupcake Workshop’. Haven’t
named them yet, but really excited about filling a whole class with
them in the New Year! – Dominique
Too bad we are on the wrong side of the pond to attend. Register by contact her at her website contact form or on her Facebook page.

Amanda from The Clever Little Cupcake Company, a custom cake and cupcake bakery in Lanconshire county of northwest England, is responsible for these brilliant creations for her own father.
Your eyes do not deceive you. There are pills and intestines on that cupcake. Click on the picture for larger image. Please check out more of Amanda’s delicate work at her cupcake gallery. Amanda writes:
These are for my Dad as a token good luck as he is having an operation on his bowels on Monday. He won’t be able to eat things like this for a while, so I thought the bowel cupcakes might cheer him up (or he might hit me!!).

Each creation hearkens back to simpler times of a child when colors were bright and shapes were straightforward. Are cupcakes a fad? Duncan Bloor recently posted some illuminating visuals on his Search Insights blog that show the cupcake trend sweeping the globe. The deep blue represents strong cupcake interest, see how the deep blue is spreading across nations.
As Mark Twain has declared when confronted with news of his own death in newspapers, “The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated.” By the looks of it, the cupcake trend continues to strengthen.
More visuals and data on the cupcake trend at the David’s Search Insights blog.

Apologies, as I have been remiss in sharing the wonderful reader submitted cupcake tattoos that have come in this year. I will be slowly catching up with the backlog.
Please do continue to share your cupcake tattoos or other creations with us! As with all user submissions, please send large images that are well focused and sharp for the best effect to [email protected]. Definitely include your comments, stories, or thank yous about the tattoo, and we will include it in your picture caption!
The standard and cute cupcake tattoo has been transformed into very personal and intimate forms of artistic expression. This trend continues as we see new cupcake art develop before our eyes.

December 15th is officially National Cupcake Day. Yes, there are other cupcake days, but they are centered around certain flavors:
National Chocolate Cupcake Day on Oct 18
National Vanilla Cupcake Day on Nov 10
In this spirit, I also want to share my favorite Monkey Face Cupcakes. I’ve had a blast making these with my kids, and they had a great time eating and playing with the fondant as if it was Playdoh.
Any cupcake cake or icing would be fine as the fun part really lies within making the monkey faces toppers; hoever, if I were making this to impress, I would match it with this Banana Bread Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting recipe.
For the topper itself, Aine explains the process:
Another option would be to not make an entire head, but just the face. The face can then be applied on top of the cupcake and icing similar to these cupcake below from prettysweet boutique.
