Turkey Time is Near

Posted by on Tuesday, November 15th, 2011

In just a little over a week we will all be sitting down to Thanksgiving turkey and dressing and pie and all the other delicious Thanksgiving foods.  Why not add cupcakes to your Thanksgiving tradition?  Here is another turkey cupcake recipe that I found.  I like this one because it doesn’t require lots of extra ingredients for the decoration–just candy corn and sprinkles.

Peace Love Cupcakes Letterpress Cards

Posted by on Tuesday, November 15th, 2011

Is it too early to be thinking about the holiday cards you will be sending out this year?  It seems as though the second you finish your Thanksgiving leftovers someone is sending out their holiday cards.  I know in my family my mom waits until the last minute to send out her cards but why not get ahead and order these beautiful cupcake letterpress cards by Parrot Design Studio.  A set of six cards that reads “Peace Love Cupcakes” costs $15.00 or you can purchase an individual card for $4.00. And remember you need time for the cards to be shipped to you and then to your recipients.

Peanut Butter Cup Cupcake

Posted by on Tuesday, November 15th, 2011

This is what I had for lunch: a Peanut Butter Cup Cupcake from The Bankery in Skowhegan, Maine.

It’s difficult to beat a peanut butter cupcake topped with light and creamy chocolate frosting and crumbled peanut butter cups! What a treat! The Bankery is a full service bakery located in an 1856 bank in downtown Skowhegan, Maine.

Christmas Cupcake Pants at Walmart

Posted by on Monday, November 14th, 2011

I just spotted these fleece Christmas cupcake pants at Walmart yesterday sporting a price tag of $7.96. Christmas trees and candy canes–is it that time already?

Old Navy Cupcake Tee

Posted by on Sunday, November 13th, 2011

As I was doing a little shopping at Old Navy yesterday I noticed an adorable little cupcake tee for toddler girls.  If I had a little girl, I think I’d definitely have to splurge on this!  It would even make a cute shirt for their first birthday when they get their first bite of cupcake!

Dior Baby Girls Cupcake Print Tee

Posted by on Sunday, November 13th, 2011

Sometimes I wonder why the best cupcake stuff seems to be for kids! I really start to wonder when I see things like this Dior cupcake print tee which is for little girls.  I like the shirt especially because I love water colors and cupcakes but I would not spend $87.00 on myself let alone on a T-shirt for a baby that will quickly grow out of it!

NFL Party Pics

Posted by on Saturday, November 12th, 2011

While flipping through a magazine an ad for NFL Shop caught my attention.  The ad was of a frosted cupcake in a teams colors and topped with a helmet party pic.  The party pics come in a package of 24 as part of the NFL cake decorating kit that costs $19.99.  There are cake decorating kits for 24 different NLF teams.

Indian Corn Cupcakes

Posted by on Friday, November 11th, 2011

I love fall centerpieces made of pumpkins and gourds and Indian corn.  I would probably love them even more if they were edible, like this lovely display of Indian corn cupcakes.  The kernels are made from autumn shades of Jelly Belly jelly beans, and the husks are made from sheets of Phyllo dough which are toasted in the oven.  Thank you, Jelly Belly, for the unique idea!

Wilton Fondant Flowers

Posted by on Friday, November 11th, 2011

I admit: I don’t have much patience for fondant. I’m just not that artistic. But I finally got around to trying out these fondant flower cut-outs from Wilton, and guess what? It wasn’t so hard!

The cupcakes were ganache-filled chocolate cupcakes with dark chocolate frosting. Yep, I was pretty popular, for a day.

I think they came out pretty cute! Not bad for an amateur!

Cross Stitch Cupcake Apron

Posted by on Thursday, November 10th, 2011

Move over “Life is good.” Make way for “Life is sweet.” I’m seeing this motto everywhere, and here it is again on this stamped cross stitch cupcake apron. This apron is available from Dimensions Crafts for $12.99.

The package contains a finished polyester/cotton apron printed in washaway ink, a shopping list for thread, and complete instructions. (Needle and thread not included.)

Might make a great holidays gift for the cupcake lover in your life (which may very well be you!)?

Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cupcakes

Posted by on Thursday, November 10th, 2011

Do you remember cinnamon toast crunch breakfast cereal?  I always think of the commercials from the 1990s with Wendell and the other bakers which used the slogan “it’s the taste you can see.”

Cinnamon Toast Crunch cupcakes can now be added to the list of breakfast cupcake, along with pancakes, cinnamon rollsPop Tart, and Cap’n Crunch Cookie cupcakes.  These cinnamon toast crunch cupcakes are the creation of Your Cup of Cake and they have me craving that cinnamunchcruncy taste!

National Vanilla Cupcake Day

Posted by on Wednesday, November 9th, 2011

Not long ago we celebrated National Chocolate Cupcake Day.  Well, TOMORROW is National Vanilla Cupcake Day.  I thought it was only fair to give you a little extra warning so that you could make plans to celebrate tomorrow.  With the current cupcake craze, there is a seemingly endless variety of cupcakes to choose from, but sometimes it’s nice to just have a plain, old vanilla cupcake.  Go celebrate tomorrow by eating a vanilla cupcake from your favorite bakery or by making your own!  It’s a perfect excuse!

ATC Review: KamNCo

Posted by on Wednesday, November 9th, 2011

KamNCo is a fun little Etsy shop that offers faux cupcakes.  These realistic cupcakes range in price from $3.00 to $8.00 for a single cupcake to $24.00 for a party pack of 4.  Each cupcake is approximately 4 inches tall and the cupcakes come in a variety of colors and decorations.

ATC was sent the pastel party cupcake in aqua for review.  As soon as I opened the package I was immediately amazed at how realistic these cupcakes are.  Inside the package t looked like I had a mini cupcake with vanilla butter cream frosting and topped with a chocolate drizzle and multi colored sprinkles.  As the product description reads the faux cupcake is very light weight, which means if used as a decoration on a Christmas tree, they will not weigh down the branches. Mountain Dew Cupcakes!

Posted by on Wednesday, November 9th, 2011

Both my husband and my best friend are obsessed with Mountain Dew, so I figured it was time to whip up some Mountain Dew cupcakes. I used this Mountain Dew Cupcakes Recipe. I can’t say that the cupcakes tasted exactly like Mountain Dew (I couldn’t figure out a way to carbonate them), but they did taste like a citrus explosion in my mouth. And my taste testers told me that this was one “cheerful cupcake.” For the frosting, I just used a pastry brush to paint stripes of coloring gel on my decorating bag, and voila! Super easy cheerful frosting!

Life is Sweet

Posted by on Tuesday, November 8th, 2011

I just bought this spiral bound gift book for a friend. I found it at a small, local bookstore, but it’s also available on Amazon. Each of the 80 pages features an inspirational quote or verse, and many of the pages feature whimsical cupcake images. At $7.99, it makes a great gift for someone who needs a pick-me-up.

Strawberry Shortcake Cupcakes

Posted by on Monday, November 7th, 2011

One of our readers has sent us some pictures of her own cupcake creations.  After falling in love with cupcakes several years ago, she was inspired to start her own cupcake shop in the Philippines.  Six months in, and she has created these lovely Strawberry Shortcake cupcakes.  She says that cupcakes are not as popular in the Philippines as they are in the US, but I wouldn’t be surprised if these treats give the cupcake craze a little extra attention over there!

Gobble! Gobble! Turkey Cupcakes

Posted by on Monday, November 7th, 2011

It’s that time of year again! We are pulling out all of our thanksgiving recipes — pumpkin pie, stuffing, candied yams, the perfect gravy, pecan pie, and the list goes on.

But this year we should all put this cupcake recipe into rotation! This is one of the most inventive cupcake decorations I have seen. But, don’t take my word for it, judge for yourself.

Scented Cupcake Candles

Posted by on Monday, November 7th, 2011

How would you like your home (or office) to smell like a freshly baked cupcake? Then you might consider burning a cupcake candle! Check out this oversized wax cupcake from Dylan’s Candy Bar. The candle measures -1/2″ x 2-3/4″  and costs $8.95. And it comes in pink and purple!

Gobble, Gobble

Posted by on Sunday, November 6th, 2011

I absolutely love this turkey cupcake idea.  Simply turn a chocolate cupcake on its side, place a nutter butter cookie in front for the neck and head, feather it with candy corn, and then add all the details (the white tips of candy corn for eyes, an almond for the beak, and part of a red fruit roll-up for the wattle).  This would make a cute and edible decoration for a party!

Cupcake Tees from JCPenney

Posted by on Sunday, November 6th, 2011

Check out these cute little girls’ tee’s from JCPenney! They were only $10 each. And the best part? There were even more cupcake tee’s than are pictured here, but the kind folks working at JCPenney were starting to look at me with more suspicion with each photo I snapped, so I quit while I was ahead!

Get Well Cupcakes

Amanda from The Clever Little Cupcake Company, a custom cake and cupcake bakery in Lanconshire county of northwest England, is responsible for these brilliant creations for her own father.

Your eyes do not deceive you. There are pills and intestines on that cupcake. Click on the picture for larger image. Please check out more of Amanda’s delicate work at her cupcake gallery. Amanda writes:

These are for my Dad as a token good luck as he is having an operation on his bowels on Monday. He won’t be able to eat things like this for a while, so I thought the bowel cupcakes might cheer him up (or he might hit me!!).
