One Cupcake Bakery Fixes Violations, Another Avoids a Scam

Posted by on August 19th, 2013

Little Miss Muffin Miss GivingsEvery once in a while there are some cupcake stories that aren’t as sweet as one would like. Unfortunately, these are of that less than savory kind. Unless you have a very open mind when it comes to the toppings you find acceptable for your cupcakes (though I’ve yet to meet anyone who would find deceased fruit flies or any rodent’s droppings acceptable anywhere near beloved frosted treats). When routine inspections from the Health Department visited the Little Miss Muffin facility in the Chicago area back in mid-July, the facility failed with rodent droppings and fruit flies only two of many citations they received. more shoe cupcakes (from facebook)The time has come to raid Grandma’s kitchen for a pair of shoes that won’t hurt your feet. The cakes and cupcakes decorated by Amanda Amundson at Grandma’s Bakery in Cashton WI are frequently posted to the bakery’s Facebook page. While many of them are orders, Amundson doesn’t forget to have fun and try new things every once in a while. This past July, a photo of some fashionable high heel cupcakes that was posted to Facebook earned the bakery a lot of attention when the picture unexpectedly went viral. Continue reading »

Cupcake Mosaic Sets a World Record

Posted by on July 29th, 2012

A new Guinness World Record was set today in Singapore for the world’s largest cupcake mosaic.  A whopping 20,000 cupcakes formed the mosaic, which beat the previous record of 5,900 cupcakes by quite a lot!  The mosaic was created to help benefit under privileged youths and low-income families.

Who gets to eat all these cupcakes, you’re probably wondering?  The cupcakes were adopted by donors and sent to homes for the elderly, disabled and children.

Happy Belated Fourth of July

Posted by on July 5th, 2012

I hope everyone had a wonderful Independence Day!  I enjoyed my day off but had a difficult time telling what day of the week it was when I returned to work today; it kept feeling like Monday!  While I was out yesterday I found some Fourth of July cupcake items like this cupcake balloon at my local Kroger grocery store.  I also saw very cute Uncle Sam cupcakes at our local Whole Foods.  Did anyone celebrate with patriotic cupcakes?

Posted by on June 25th, 2012

Are you looking for a way to stay cool this 4th of July?  These cupcakes might not actually be cold, but they would be a great addition to your holiday festivities.  The recipe uses three colors of cake batter and frosting, and sugar crystals give the snow cone cupcake its “icy” appearance.

King of the Grill Cupcakes

In my house I may do most of the cooking but when it comes to grilling, that’s 100% my husband’s job.  I found these totally perfect cupcakes at Wilton.com and I instantly fell in love.  Not only would they be a great Father’s Day cupcake idea, but these would also be great for a 4th of July picnic too.  You could also modify this a bit by adding fondant hotdogs, corn on the cob and other veggies.  They may each take a while to make, but check out the baker reviews for some time-saving tips.
