Cupcake Corer and Decorating Set by Uncommon Goods

Toolkit for Tasty Filled Cupcakes :)

I was paging through the Uncommon Goods catalog the other day when I came across this cupcake corer and decorating set.  You can find decorating sets and kits all over the place, but I thought that the corer that’s included in this kit set it apart.  Getting just the right-sized filling hole in a cupcake can be fussy, possibly crumbling the cupcake in the process.

In case you’re skeptical about this corer’s usefulness or the quality of the kit in general, Uncommon Goods did a gift lab on this product to see how well it worked. While

a manufacturer’s take on their own product isn’t exactly objective, the post is pretty informative about the kit’s performance.

You’ll want to click the link to get the long version, the short version is that the cupcakes weren’t picture perfect, but they turned out better than they would have without the kit.  All in all, it sounds like it’s worth the $20 price tag if you’re into making filled cupcakes on a regular basis.

Tulip Baking Cups

By on Wednesday, September 15th, 2010

Have you used these?

I’ve been reading around and everyone that has used them says they are really good and make the cupcakes look fantastic, then I stumbled across this post on the Simply Caked Blog.  I love the combination of pink and brown they look stunning.

Apparently the cups also come in Red and White and I found a great image of Banana Bread baked in white tulip cups on An Art Nest.

So where can you get them?  I can’t find them here in Australia yet, but in the US you can get them from Simply Caked by clicking here.  But best of all, as a new ATC Sponsor, Simply Caked has decided to create a special discount for ATC Readers!  15% off your total order!

They are a new store so are constantly expanding their range!  To get your 15% off, you will need to type the secret code in the coupon field at checkout.  Lean in close and I’ll whisper it to you… ATC15

So let us know what you think of them? and shhh secret squirrel on the code ;)

I think the Malt Ball sounds amazing. It is truly original and I would really love to try it. That could be way more fun for “family movie night” than a box of malt balls :-)  Cat

Congratulations! Please send your mailing address to atcwinner@gmail.com.   Thanks to all who entered and commented on the Saint Cupcake menu.  Special thanks to Saint Cupcake for sponsoring this sweet giveaway!

Real Simple’s Daily Find: Scrumptious Mail Order Cupcakes

By on Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

Today’s find from Real Simple was Scrumptious Mail-Order Cupcakes.  Real Simple complied a list of 8 different cupcakeries that offer to ship their delicious cupcakes.  Included on the list are some cupcakes we have blogged about before including Crumbs Cupcakes for Big Appetites and Godiva for Chocolate Lovers.  Even this week’s ATC Giveaway, Saint Cupcake, was mentioned for DIY-ers.  If you have an occasion that calls for cupcakes, this compiled list may help.  I would also like to mention that Georgetown Cupcakes are some of the best cupcakes I have had.  I am not sure how well they are shipped but I know they survived a five hour car ride for me to try them and they were great.  Similarly Crumbs were brought back on a 2 hour plane ride from New York and tasted fresh the next day when I tried them.

Saint Cupcake Giveaway

By on Monday, May 3rd, 2010

This week I’d like to re-introduce you to one of our fabulous cupcake bakeries, Saint Cupcake.   They are no stranger to us here at ATC because we have happily blogged about them before.  Check out this previous tempting post.  Their homebase bakeries are in Portland Oregon but they ship their wonderful cuppies all over the US.   Here’s how it works: Go to their lovely site and choose either 3, 6 or 12 cupcakes.  Then use their fancy cupcake selector to build your cupcakes – drag & drop your cake flavors, icings, and sprinkles – and they’ll send them to you in a cute kit along with an icing wand and easy-peasy decorating tips.

This week, Saint Cupcake is giving away 6 cupcakes of your design.  Just go to their menu page and pick out your favorite flavor.  Then come back to ATC and tell us what it was in the comment area below.  One winner will be chosen on May 10th.  Thanks Saint Cupcake for sponsoring this delicious giveaway!

Review Update: Red Velvet Stefanie

By on Thursday, April 8th, 2010

In December I was lucky enough to do a review of Stefanie’s Red Velvet Cupcake mix which was delicious!  Yesterday I received an email informing me that the Red Velvet Stefanie website had been updated.  Now you can purchase the Red Velvet Cupcake mix in addition to new flavors such as Snickerdoodle, Vanilla, and soon, Black and White.  Also available on the website are catering orders and cupcake apparel.  Stefanie has even added a mix of the month club where you receive two packets of that month’s featured mix and Stefanie’s recipe guide to match the mix.  After trying the mix myself, seeing how easy they were to make and how great they turned out, I would recommend anyone visit the site and don’t forget, this is the same Stefanie that came up with The Cheesecake Factory’s Stephanie’s Ultimate Red Velvet Cheesecake!
