Cupcake art and sweet deals.

By on Saturday, October 10th, 2009

I have mentioned previously that TJMaxx and Marshall’s are great places to find cupcake items for a bargain. I visited them both this week and they proved me right again. This time I found two pieces of cupcake art for only 12.99 each, that are going to make great additions to my home.

I was also able to find out that the cupcake dish sets I wrote about a few weeks ago are on clearance. Each item was discounted at least $1 off and some items were discounted up to $3 off! If you happen to come across the matching teapot please let me know, it is the only part of the set I have been unable to locate!

Bacon Cupcake

For the last few weeks Food Network has been showing a promotional commercial for the new season of Unwrapped. I couldn’t help but notice that one of the items featured on the commercial was a bacon cupcake. I kept on wondering who baked that cupcake? I found via Twitter, the proud cupcake baker is Tee and Cakes based in Boulder Colorado. The Tee and Cakes Chocolate Bacon cupcake is made of a maple cake with chocolate ganache icing and bacon on top. Tee and Cakes have made their Unwrapped segment available online. To watch the entire Bacon Unwrapped episode tune in to Food Network tonight Oct 08 at 11:30 PM ET/PT or tomorrow Oct 09 at 2:30 AM ET/PT.

The month of September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. CancerCare for Kids® is just one of many organizations and programs trying to improve the lives of children with cancer. There are three ways to get involved with CancerCare for Kids® annual Cupcakes for a Cause week September 21–27, 2009.

You can create an E-Cupcake (for free) and send it to a friend. The website 1-800-FLOWERS.COM® will donate $1 for each e-cupcake sent up to a total of $5,000 through the end of September.

Host a bake sale in your local community any time during the month of September, and send the proceeds to CancerCare for Kids®.

You can also participate by purchasing cupcakes from participating bakeries and flowers from participating florists who donate a portion of their sales during Cupcakes for a Cause week, September 21–27 to the CancerCare for Kids® program.

Halloween Cupcakes

By on Friday, September 18th, 2009

The weather is getting cooler which means that Halloween is just around the corner. While shopping at Michaels last week for cupcake liners, I noticed that Michaels has quite a few options for those wanting to include cupcakes in their Halloween celebrations. Wilton has several cupcake items this year including cupcake stands, wrappers, liners, picks, stencils, and boxes. Many of these items are available in local craft stores, but the Skulls and Scroll designs are only available at Michaels.

I love shopping at TJ Maxx and Marshalls. I can always find a few cupcake items that I just have to have. In the last few weeks I have found many cupcake items in the kitchen sections. Keep in mind when shopping at TJ Maxx or Marshalls that sets of items are often not available at the same time and it may take a few weeks to complete a set. Also keep in mind that half of a set may be for sale at TJ Maxx and the other part at Marshalls. Always save your receipt so if you can’t find all the pieces you want you can just return them.

Happy Belated Birthday Hostess® CupCake

By on Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

The iconic Hostess® CupCake celebrated 90 years as America’s squiggle-topped cupcake on Monday September 14. Americans eat more than 600 million Hostess® CupCakes every year more than any other snack cake. I was most likely given my first Hostess® CupCake as a small child and I still enjoy them when looking for a little treat. Happy Birthday CupCake!
