Cupcake Stepping Stone

By on Monday, August 20th, 2012

I am loving this Cupcake Stepping Stone Kit I found on Walmart.com today.  Each kit comes with enough supplies to make one 12 inch stone.   I would love a whole path of these cupcakes leading up to my front door but for $16.47 plus .97 shipping for each, I may just have to settle for one accent stone for my garden.  They also come in flower, star, turtle and many other shapes and have been spotted at Michael’s too.

Cupcake Decorating Tip

By on Sunday, August 19th, 2012

If you’re like me, then you really love eating cupcakes, but the thought of decorating them scares you just a little bit.  It’s a lot of pressure to get the design just right, and if you’re making them for a party, then you don’t want a last-minute disaster in the kitchen.

I really like this tip that I found on the Huffington Post because it sounds pretty fool-proof to an amateur cupcake-decorator like me.  It’s also completely free if you have some lace or doilies laying around the house (or know someone else who does).  Next time you want a fun or elegant-looking cupcake, just lay a piece of doily or lace or something similar over your cupcake, dust with some powdered sugar or cocoa powder, and you’ve got a nicely and intricately designed treat.

Do be forewarned, though: you will need to dust them immediately before serving, as the dust gets absorbed into the cake over time.

Yellow Cupcake Comparison

By on Sunday, August 19th, 2012

With so many recipes available to us through the internet, cookbooks, and magazines, sometimes I have a difficult time choosing the best recipe.  I want the recipe that will give me the best looking and tasting cupcakes but not all cupcake recipes are the same.  I found this yellow cake comparison on The Way The Cookie Crumbles website.  The blog post compares three yellow cake recipes from Cooks Illustrated, Martha Stewart, and Smitten Kitchen to see which is the best.  The Cooks Illustrated recipe was the winner, for the recipe and to read more about the comparison check out The Way The Cookie Crumbles.  There’s also a chocolate frosting comparison if you need help choosing a frosting for your cupcakes!

Cannoli Cupcakes

By on Saturday, August 18th, 2012

The other day my dad brought home cannoli and as I ate one I thought they would make great cupcakes.  I thought the outside tube would make a good cake, top it with the filling as frosting, throw some chocolate chips in there and you would have a delicious cupcake!  Then I found Tide and Thyme’s blog and realized some one else already had the idea for cannoli cupcakes! The cannoli cupcakes Tide and Thyme made look as good as the ones I had dreamed up in my head!

Dylan’s Candy Bar

By on Thursday, August 16th, 2012

Ever since I was a kid, I have had a big sweet tooth. I can remember going to the grocery store with my mom and just drooling over all the candy bars and sweets.  Just last year, my hubby and I ventured to Dylan’s Candy Bar in New York and I truly felt 8 years old again.  Just walking in that store you get a sugar high from the sweet smell!  They had pretty much every kind of candy you could ever dream of.  And they had cupcake stuff too! You must check out their site to see it all but here’s two of my irresistible favorites.  FYI- The store was started by Dylan Lauren, the daughter of famed designer Ralph Lauren.  Love this family!
