Lego Man Cupcakes

By on Monday, May 17th, 2010

Jenn from JustJENN recipes had the creative idea to use a ice cube mold as a chocolate mold.  She made little chocolate lego men to use as cupcake toppers for her cookies and cream cupcakes.  I love her idea because lately I’ve seen tons of fun ice cube molds by Fred & Friends including skulls and crossbonesbattle shipsbrains, and dentures.  Any molded chocolate would make an easy and unique cupcake topper.

Maypole Cake

By on Sunday, May 16th, 2010

I guess I am a little late posting this in time for May Day but I am sure you could find another celebration to make this fun display for.  This maypole cake from Martha Stewart consists of a cake, surrounded by cupcakes and topped with an inedible pole and pieces of ribbon.  The flowers and festive colors make this cake and cupcake pairing perfect for spring!

Bleeding Heart Bakery

By on Saturday, May 15th, 2010

Bleeding Heart Bakery of Illinois looks like my kind of bakery! Bright colors and yummy looking creations.

All of their pastries are cutting edge and thought provoking. All of their ingredients are local and organic. This sounds like a the perfect combination for some yummy creations.

Now onto the cupcakes! They have 2 categories of cupcakes – Plain Jane and Fancy Schmancy.  There is only a 50 cent difference between the two. This months  Plain Jane choices are Slash, Red Velvet , Carrot Cake with cream cheese frosting, Chocolate/peanut butter and Chocolate Raspberry. I vote for Chocolate Raspberry! And then for the Fancy Schmancy we have Strawberry Shortcake, Veruca Salt , Ginger Mint Mojito and Bananas Foster. I’m getting a tooth ache just thinking about these flavors!

Road trip anyone?

LeSportSac Cupcake Print

By on Friday, May 14th, 2010

LeSportSac bags are always fun and unique, which is part of why I loved them so much.  I currently have a few different styles and patterns but after coming across this print, I think I might need another one.  You can never have too many bags right?  Especially when this one is covered in cupcakes!  The LeSportSac website offers the cupcake print on 23 different styles.  Zappos, which doesn’t charge for shipping, has the cupcake print available in two styles, Erika which I have with a different patter; It’s a great sized bag even for everyday use.  The other, slightly larger option is the Everygirl Tote.  Both of the styles offered by zappos are show below.

Forget Mud Pies!

By on Friday, May 14th, 2010

Spring time is often a wet and muddy time of year. So what can you do with your kids outside to make the best of it?  How about making some mud cupcakes! Check out this “recipe” from Family Fun.

Beyond Mud Pies: Mud Cupcakes

The classic mud pie needs no improving, but there may be days when your kids want to get more creative with their dirty work. That’s when old kitchen supplies come in handy, for these decorative cupcakes or for a more utilitarian variation: Mud Bricks.

Materials:
  • Cupcake liners
  • Cupcake pan
  • Mud
  • Nature objects (we used berries, flowers, and pebbles)

Instructions:
  1. Simply place liners in a cupcake pan and fill them with mud batter, then decorate the cakes with natural objects, such as berries, flowers, and pebbles.
