Curbside Cupcakes
By hungry runner on May 27th, 2010 . Filed under: Bakeries, News .Would you quit your day-job to start a cupcake business? According to a CNN report, that is what the founders of Curbside Cupcakes did. The two co-owners each had jobs but one day realized they wanted cupcakes and they wanted the cupcakes to come to them. Using that idea, they started with a truck of 300 cupcakes and have expanded to over 1300 cupcakes. Curbside Cupcake fans find the truck’s location through their website or social networking sites, such as facebook or twitter. Those living in or visiting Washington, DC can look for the cupcake truck and “enjoy cupcake bliss right at their door.”

I have been considering something just like this in my area. Does anyone know how to go about something like this? Do they bake the cupcakes on their trucks? What are city regulations? Things like that…where do they get these trucks and vans?
Any links or advice would be appreciated thanks :)

In order to set up something like this, you would need to get your truck, then also rent a commissary from an exciting location. The commissary will be a commercial kitchen space that has room for you to do prep, storage, and legally park your truck when not in use. There are companies that specialize as commissaries. I’m sure the regulations vary by state, but here in California, that’s how it basically works.
