Cupcake Decorating Tools

By on April 29th, 2010 . Filed under: Decorating, Kitchen .

My mom recently got me some new products that  are supposed to make  decorating cupcakes easier. I have not had the time to bake cupcakes yet but I thought I would share the products.  If you have either of these, let us know how they work for you.

From The Pampered Chef I was given the Decorator Bottle Set. The set includes three easy-squeeze bottles, each with a different tip and a cleaning brush for $12.00.

The second, by Kuhn Rikon, is a Cookie and Cupcake Deco Kit. This kit contains 2 tall bottles, 3 short bottles, 5 tips and an offset spatula for $24.00.

The squirt bottles work great- so much easier (and reusable) than a pastry bag!

I’m a real novice cupcake baker, but I got the Kuhn Riko kit for Christmas and I love it! The squeezy bottles are brilliant :)

i think all of these give you a lot of good options, and could be used for lots of different projects…

I have the set from Pampered Chef. Make sure to use these for decorating only. Frost the cupcakes with an offset spatula/pastry bag before using these. If you try to squeeze out too much frosting at once or use a lot of force, the tops pop off which is kind of annoying. I found them a little hard to use, but I haven’t tried pastry bags, so couldn’t compare them.

I too have (had) the Pampered Chef set & they work well enough. Sarah is correct, the tops do pop off & they are small, needing constant refilling if you’re using them to frost your cupcakes. Refilling them is quite a pain in the butt. I don’t have a dishwasher, which might have made a difference, so getting them thoroughly clean was a chore as well. I haven’t used them in a few years & much prefer my pastry bags.

I sell Pampered Chef and when we came out with these I didn’t know what they were thinking. However, they are good for little hands so it’s fund for kids. It doesn’t hold much and depending on the child, pastry bags can be a messy disaster.

I have the squirt bottles well and I think they are very good for the kids. You can also use them to store icing in the fridge. Filling is best done by using a pastry bag..
